Woodlawn Baptist Church, Austin, Texas

The project entailed construction of a new sanctuary building and civil site improvements required to bring Woodlawn Baptist Church into compliance. Thonhoff Consulting Engineers’ scope of work was the civil site plan and City of Austin permitting. TCE analyzed the 4.84-acre site for impervious cover, detention control, water quality control, ADA requirements, parking requirements, and COA Subchapter E (Design Standards and Mixed Use Ordinance) compliance. TCE balanced the existing impervious cover with the new impervious cover to be compliant with COA code requirements for the area. The project incorporated a vegetative filter strip and rain garden water quality system, which was the first design in the city of Austin to use an alterative compliance soil depth method. The project included new ADA sidewalks, ADA vehicle drop-off areas and ADA parking.

Services Provided: Permitting activities included COA site development permitting, a zoning change, and seeking consent of interested stakeholders through public involvement meetings.
